The Table Remains captures a Palestinian family sharing a meal amongst the remains of their home — surrounded by broken stone, yet gathered together beneath the enduring presence of an olive tree.

The walls may be damaged. The landscape may change. But around the table, family, culture and belonging remain.

The empty chair draped with a keffiyeh carries its own meaning — a quiet reminder of those who may no longer be able to take their place at the table, but whose presence is never forgotten.

Part of our Poetry Collection, this piece explores resilience not through confrontation, but through something beautifully ordinary: a family continuing to eat together, continuing to love and continuing to call their land home.
